%X One of the major threats to biodiversity conservation in the Atlantic Forest biome is the reduction and fragmentation of forest areas, mainly by the change of land cover. So this research aims to conduct a survey of deforested areas in a sub-basin of Almada river watershed, Bahia. The review period is established for seventeen years, by analysis of Landsat satellite images 5TM 3,4,5 RGB color combinations in the years 1989 and 2006. We applied the geometric correction, and then was classified by the supervised maximum likelihood method. Subsequently the image was reclassified, where classes were isolated area of forest in each period and later on the calculator tool in ArcGIS 9.3 raster file was obtained from the result of the deforested areas through the mathematical operation subtracting the forest class of 2006 by 1989. From the calculations it was possible to observe an area of 3216.98 ha of deforestation which accounts for 9.35% of the study area.
